president obama called donald trump small business. that's so foolish, it's not worth talking about. i live in a world with my four restaurants, and i tell you it's very, very difficult. we can't afford anymore taxes or regulation and people sticking their hands in the pie. we can't raise prices. talk about kids going to college, why go to college and spend $85,000 on a college education if you can't get a job? it's insane. that's what they are missing. the american people won tonight. we got a clear choice. double down on how bad obama is or look for a new vision. neil: you know, ed, quickly, i talked to a few folks who were surprised at what they consider governor romney dialing back a little bit, the size of the tax cut, even though it's 20% across the board for all income groups. he's taken away so many deductions, writeoffs, ect., and now they say, hell, i'm not getting a break at all. i know what governor romney's trying to do, reach out to the middle class, saying he's not an elitist or favor the rich, but could that backfire on

we know that president obama, so far, tried to avoid specifics on this. this is typically the phenomena of the guy who leads in the polls. he doesn't want to run out the clock, but he doesn't want to do anything to jeopardize shaking that clock. whether it comes to issues like the end of the year phenomena when this all happens at the same time, who knows, but it could come up, the idea whether they table all the rates, table all the cuts for another three or six months. for those of you tuning in, we're at the university of denver, the site of this year's first presidential debate. this is what they call the spin room. i know my first thought, i thought it was a pbs pledge-a-thons because it looks like that. i don't know if they are giving away tote bags, but they are all reporters. there are hundreds of them. there's the spin aloe, just to the right, and so what's going to happen after the debate is that all the romney and obama forces come out in droves to tell you how brilliantly each side did while before the debate, up until now, they say each side

barack obama. very consistent with all of the various reactions from the left and right so far, a very good night for mitt romney, not very good for the president of the united states. >> those poll numbers are telling. >> in polarized america, for any candidate to get above 50% are huge. 45%, 43%, solid republican. >> are those undecided voters? >> registered voters who watched the debate. a lot of president's supporters say he got spanked tonight. >> it tightens -- what this means, it's likely as we saw in 2004, when john kerry won the first debate, that the polls will tighten a bit, and -- but it also means to me that the obama campaign can't press the delete button fast enough on this debate and they will go out there and they will erase it. and they will go on the attack and they are very good at doing that, and the president can be good at doing that. it may get him back on his game. >> may not change the numbers very quickly. but it does prompt a lot of people to do, i need to take a second
